Lisa is a local printmaker artist who uses the medium of silkscreen to explore her relationship with the place she calls home. As both artist and a farmer, Lisa is every day observing and interacting with this country. It both inspires and challenges.
Lisa’s art explores these observations and interactions. It is her way of understanding. Sometimes the observations are concentrated studies of small details, such as the texture of the bark of a Coolibah tree. Other times broader panoramic studies – Myall Plains. The observations are more about her personal interaction with this place rather than a perfect depiction of the visual image. The use of colour is integral in Lisa’s work and can come from anywhere. Sometimes it speaks of the season, sometimes it comes from a memory, other times she can be observing through other artists eyes, using their colour and understanding.
Lisa’s studio Avon is located on floodplains of the Castlereagh River between Coonamble and Walgett. This place is her home and inspiration.
This body of work began in drought and is currently evolving in the middle of the flood. The work very much speaks of the contractions of experience in place. Lisa has braved searing 47-degree temperatures, dust storms, mouse plagues, floodwaters, mosquitos and brown snakes to produce this work.
These artworks are as imperfect as this land.
It is unpredictable, wild and free.
