Outback Arts, welcomes 2022 Board
The 2022 Outback Arts board has been confirmed at their Annual General Meeting, held on Monday 28 March. This year the Board welcomed several new members whilst farewelling others who have diligently supported Outback Arts and represented their communities, some for many years.
The Outback Arts board is made of seven Shire representatives and three independents who have an interest in arts and culture in our communities. The board representatives provide Outback Arts with a diverse range of professional skills and a contact point for communication within each community.
Community representative Casey Marshall-Siemer was welcomed back as Chairperson. Casey lives on a family property near Walgett and holds an extensive resume with experience in developing cultural strategy, business and legal affairs, festival and event management and complex marketing campaigns.
Taking the Vice-Chair position is long term Community Representative board member Kylie Harvey. She is an artist herself, including textiles and visual arts and has a solid online following for her creations as ‘Indigo and Quince’ as well as holding a board position for Cobar Sound Chapel.
Catherine Goldsmith was re-elected as the Board's third Community Representative. As a Visual Arts teacher at Coonamble High School and artist, Catherine brings excellent education, programming and arts administration skills to the board. Passionate about the importance of the arts and its’ contribution to the fabric of our communities.
Outback Arts farewelled Warren Shire Council’s previous representative, Pauline Serdity who has been on the Outback Arts board for nearly 20 years. Beginning her time in 2002, Pauline has taken on many roles, but in most recent times had taken on the role of Treasurer. Pauline's exceptional service was recognised at the meeting and she was presented with a gift to commemorate her time with Outback Arts.
Taking Pauline’s place as both Warren Shire Council’s representative and taking on the role of Treasurer is newly elected Councillor Ros Jackson. Ros is embedded in her community through her work at the local newspaper and other voluntary roles. In addition to this, Ros holds a broad range of experience in the entertainment industry, both as a performer and an agent. She has also held a strong career in the banking and finance sector where she held a series of senior leadership roles and gained valuable project management experience.
Another long-term board member, Jane Keir will be moving on from representing Walgett Shire Councils after contributing her expertise for nearly 15 years, joining the board in 2008. Jane has a tremendous passion for the outback that will be greatly missed.
Taking Jane’s place as Walgett Shire Council’s Representative is Councillor Sue Currey. Sue is a born and raised Walgett local, living on a family property to the South West of town. After 3 years, Outback Arts are sad to see Veneta Dutton move on as Bogan Shire Council’s representative but are pleased to welcome Councillor Greg Deacon. Greg is no stranger to the arts, with several family members involved in the creative industries as professional visual artists, comedians and musicians. As a musician himself, Greg enjoys performing with his band a few times a year. Greg brings excellent business skills to the board as a certified accountant and tax agent who has supported farming businesses across Warren and Nyngan for over 50 years.

As a re-elected Councillor, Donna Jeffries will continue to represent Brewarrina Shire Council on the Board. Donna holds a substantial career in health and wellbeing with a particular focus on Aboriginal health in regional and rural settings. She has held several roles in executive leadership and holds particular skills in driving transformative change.
Councillor Barbara Deans has also been put forth to represent Coonamble Shire Council once again. Barbara is passionate about her community and places a high value on what the arts bring to our region.
Cobar Shire local Seigrid Peters loves the creative industries, especially visual arts and dance. After studying to become a Primary School teacher Seigrid returned home to teach for 8 years. She now runs her own creative business ‘The Pink Galah’ and works closely with Cobar Shire Council on several creative projects and will represent the Shire on the Outback Arts Board for her second year in 2022.
Outback Arts are looking forward to the year and exciting projects ahead under the skilled and valuable guidance of our 2022 board.
